From the Director:
Set in the early 1950s, Agatha Christie’s The Hollow is in many ways a classic, period, country house murder mystery. The enduring popularity of Christie’s work is, in no small measure, due to its deceptive simplicity. Below the surface there are layers of subtlety in both plot and character. In her gentle way she was not afraid to tackle difficult issues, hardly mentioned in her own era. In The Hollow the events emerge from the character’s unwitting obsessions with social class, family, sex and marital abuse. Being Christie, these subjects are always deliberately understated but are the same topics modern writers explore in grittier terms.
