The volunteer collective Tuga Productions is organising the 3rd edition of the celebrations of the Day of Portugal in Bridgwater at the Bridgwater Arts Centre. The event will start at 4pm and will end at 11pm.
A number of Portuguese artists will perform on stage and there will also be a clown to entertain the children and Karaoke in-between artists performances so that the public can also participate. A BBQ of Portuguese sardines and meats will be available at the garden as well as Portuguese home-made sangria and beers at the bar.
The next Bridgwater Mayor will be presented to the community on stage, he will be the first Portuguese Mayor in the history of the UK and we want to pay him a homage because this is an achievement that deserves our recognition. The Mayor will be introduce by the Bridgwater Town Council leader, Cllr Brian Smedley with simultaneous translation to/from Portuguese of a professional interpreter. The Portuguese prime-minister is invited to attend this celebration but is presence is still pending confirmation.
In 2016 the Day of Portugal in Bridgwater was the only celebration in the whole UK and this year again the town will held the only UK celebration of the most important day for the Portuguese communities around the world.
We would like to invite everyone in Bridgwater and Somerset areas to join us at this celebration.
We want to thank our sponsors because without them this would not be possible, a few years ago we wouldn’t believe that a legend of the Portuguese Popular Music would be performing at Bridgwater, and this is only possible thanks to our hard work of volunteers but also of the small Portuguese business in Somerset that support our activities as well as a huge support from Bridgwater Town Council and Sedgemoor District Council.
A big thank you to all of them:
All Town Councillors at Bridgwater Town Council
Angela Farmer at Sedgemoor District Council
Diogo & Nathan at Skewer House Taunton
Virgilio & Vera at Cafe Aveirense
Tiago Raimundo at JC Prestige Taxis
Jose Gomes at Go Cargo
Joaquim Teixeira at TvTugaSat
Kate Goodale at Bridgwater Arts Centre
And of course all the volunteers at Tuga Productions that work very hard preparing, during and after the event, to offer the Portuguese community a day “in Portugal” without leaving Bridgwater and to share our culture and traditions with the locals.
